The Story
Who Is
Angus Neil?

Angus Neil is a Flamenco, World & Latin performer based in Vancouver, Canada.
When he was twelve years old, his uncle sang “Guantanamera” — a Cuban song — with such a beautiful voice that it hooked him on Latin music and the guitar for life. He begged his uncle to teach him, and learned three chords. He played those three chords for years, everywhere, and believe it or not, it gave him great pleasure.
He left Trinidad at fourteen, but before then he used to listen to Venezuelan music drifting from a little radio his uncle gave him. Venezuela is only ten kilometres from Trinidad, and the warmth of that music — the happy time it represented — became the foundation of everything he creates today.
The love for Flamenco came later, when he heard the burning guitar of Paco de Lucía and the lyrical playing of Paco Peña. Flamenco gave him an incredible sense of rhythm and timing — you can always hear it in his music. In El Marabino, based on a traditional Venezuelan melody, the steady Flamenco palmas carry the rhythm through certain sections like a heartbeat.
His music has a unique way of combining emotional classical guitar with the infectious grooves of Flamenco and Latin style. The arrangements are personal and earnest — the elegant simplicity of his playing collides with different influences, including Flamenco, Classical, Afro-Cuban, and Latin music.
“It is my sincere wish that the music really lifts you up — and sends you back to a time of joy and peace.”
He is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he continues to compose, record, and share music that carries the warmth of his origins into every note. His single Embers — a Flamenco Blues composition made during a difficult period of illness — captures exactly that: music as medicine, music that makes everything feel okay.
When you press play, you should feel a wave of relaxation from your head to your toes. That’s the whole point.
